I've been so busy I haven't had time to sketch anything, so tomorrow there will be a Tuesday Morning Coffee and Sketch. For the same reason this post will only be in English. I hope my Finnish readers understand, as I'm sure their English is so good they hardly even notice.
On Saturday I did a really fun photo shoot. You know I'm not a professional photographer by any means, it's more like a dear hobby to me, but I was asked to do a photo shoot for a campaign. This is the first time I got to photograph with real studio lighting (if you don't count some classes I took at school) and it was so exciting. (Did I already mention I'm excited? :))
It was so much fun experimenting with the lighting. I mean check out the difference between these shots. The first one is with just the normal lights in the room, you can see the fluorescent lamps reflecting on the white. The second is with two spotlights (they might have some official names), one from behind and one on the side. Maybe it would have been even nicer with a third spot on the other side, but we were just playing around with these.
I had a blast doing the shoot, and could definitely see myself doing more. And moreover, I'm really starting to see the opportunities that being a freelancer gives. You know I felt insecure when I started, 3,5 months ago, whether or not I'd have enough work. When you are a full-time employee you know you are getting your paycheck every so often and can plan everything according to that. But as a freelancer you might know two or three months ahead (well, this is my 3,5 months as a freelancer experience). So it's a whole different level of security/insecurity. You just have to do your best, hope that people like it and trust that you will get more commissions six months down the road or the next year or the next.
But - on the other side of that - I feel truly lucky to have been asked to do some really interesting jobs with some really cool people. So even if I'm not a person who loves the thrill of the unknown (I realize there are people like that too) I'm happy to have that opportunity to explore and do different kinds of things.
What about you, could you give up your security, financial or otherwise, to pursue an alternate career path? Or even your dream? I'm sure many of my readers already have, because I've come to meet so many creative bloggers. As a matter of fact, they are my inspiration and idols :)
